What to do in the Garden in April

April is a busy and exciting month in the garden as temperatures rise and

plants begin to flourish.

Planting

It's the perfect time to sow seeds directly into the soil, including hardy

annuals, salad crops and root vegetables like carrots and beetroot.

Start planting summer-flowering plants such as dahlias and begonias while

keeping an eye on late frosts, protecting tender plants with fleece if necessary.

Lawn Care & Weeding

Lawns will need regular mowing and feeding them with a spring lawn fertiliser

will encourage healthy growth. Weeds will start appearing more frequently, so

regular weeding and mulching can help keep them under control.

Tips

April is also a great time to prune early spring-flowering shrubs, divide

perennials and support climbing plants with trellises or stakes.

As the garden bursts into life, watering newly planted flowers and vegetables

will ensure they establish well for the months ahead.
