It is very important to make sure your tree is staked. The reason for staking your tree is stop the roots from rocking. The head of the tree does not need strapping. It can move in the wind.
In order to do this you will need a stake and a strap. The strap needs to be check periodically to ensure its not cutting into the trunk of the tree.

This large, robust and vigorous maple has deep crimson-purple foliage throughout the spring and summer, hence the common name Purple Norway Maple. The autumn colour foliage ranges from orange to brown making this a spectacular maple tree throughout most of the year. Flowers are small, yellow and tinted red in spring.
