Leucothoe \'Firestar\'

Making a tough and colourful addition to shady borders (or patios), this compact evergreen shrub will really liven up a lacklustre display. Initially the leaves emerge with a bright scarlet flush, but as they ripen, their true green and gold patterning becomes more apparent. This is retained throughout the summer, but as the winter approaches, the leaves take on deep burgundy undertones.
