What to do in the Garden in July

July is a warm and lively month in the garden, with plenty to do to keep plants

thriving.

Watering and Deadheading

Regular watering is crucial, especially for pots, hanging baskets, and vegetable

beds, as the summer heat can quickly dry out the soil.

Deadheading flowers like roses, dahlias, and geraniums will encourage

continuous blooming, while harvesting crops such as tomatoes, beans,

courgettes and soft fruits will keep plants productive.

Lawn Care & Mulching

Lawns may need mowing more frequently but avoid cutting the grass too

short in dry weather to help retain moisture. Mulching around plants can help

conserve water and suppress weeds.

Planning Ahead

If planning ahead for autumn, July is also a great time to sow biennials like

foxgloves and wallflowers for next year's display.

Eyes Out

Keep an eye out for pests like aphids and caterpillars, dealing with them

promptly to prevent damage.

Enjoy the garden in full bloom and take time to relax and appreciate the

summer beauty!
