It is very important to make sure your tree is staked. The reason for staking your tree is stop the roots from rocking. The head of the tree does not need strapping. It can move in the wind.
In order to do this you will need a stake and a strap. The strap needs to be check periodically to ensure its not cutting into the trunk of the tree.
The narrowest Carpinus betulus cultivar. At a height of 10 m the tree is only 3 m wide. Young twigs are grey: older branches and the trunk are dark grey and remarkably smooth. The leaves are a fresh colour of green in the spring and retain that colour throughout the summer. Since 'Frans Fontaine' only bears male flowers, the tree does not produce any fruit. It's a good avenue or street tree.
